San Francisco Bay Area to host six FIFA World Cup 2026 matches

California's San Francisco Bay Area Stadium will stage a total of six matches from the biggest-ever World Cup, including one knockout match.

San Francisco Bay Area Stadium will host six matches from the FIFA World Cup 2026™, including five group fixtures and one knockout game.

The full match schedule for the biggest-ever FIFA World Cup has now been unveiled, giving the framework for the 104-game tournament featuring 48 teams across 16 host cities in three countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States.

And the superb San Francisco Bay Area venue will play host to five group-stage games and one Round of 32 fixture, with the knockout game being played on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.

One of the newer stadiums tasked with hosting the tournament, San Francisco Bay Area Stadium is located in the city of Santa Clara.

Home to the NFL's San Francisco 49ers since its opening in 2014, the stadium was selected to host Super Bowl 50 in February 2016, where Coldplay headlined the half-time show with support from Beyonce and Bruno Mars. The venue staged the first match of the Copa America Centenario in June 2016 as Colombia defeated USA, and has also hosted Wrestlemania and the 2015 NHL clash between the LA Kings and San Jose Sharks.
