Featuring twice in the Guinness World Records as the loudest outdoor stadium, with the feats achieved in September and December 2013, the ground has become known as a fortress for the likes of MLS side Seattle Sounders and the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.
The home atmosphere was perhaps best evidenced on 5 May 2022, as the Sounders defeated Mexican outfit Pumas 3-0 to claim a 5-2 aggregate victory and lift the Concacaf Champions League, becoming the first American side to win the competition in its new format and qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup™.
Sounders played all three of their FIFA Club World Cup matches on home turf, but were unable to progress from a tough group featuring Paris Saint-Germain, Botafogo and Atlético de Madrid. Six Club World Cup matches were held at the venue during the 2025 tournament.
Seattle is nicknamed ‘The Emerald City’ due to its lush year-round greenery.

Founded in 1869, Seattle has thrived due to the timber industry, the Gold Rush and shipbuilding. Today, the Greater Seattle area is celebrated for its many high-profile innovative technology and biomedical companies. Seattle is also one of the healthiest and greenest cities in the nation and it is eager to stage an environmentally friendly event.
With some of the most ardent and passionate fans in Major League Soccer (MLS), Seattle Sounders are a thriving club, while there are many youth players developing the game from a grassroots level. In addition, the RAVE Foundation is building urban, accessible football fields and futsal courts for free play, that is dedicated to open use by the community. Each and every step of the way Seattle has attracted large, passionate crowds for professional matches. In the early years of the NASL, the Seattle Sounders were consistently among the football league’s attendance leaders with more than 20,000 attendees per game. In 1976, an exhibition game with the New York Cosmos and Pele produced a sellout crowd of 58,000; a North American record at the time.
